You did it. You worked up the courage and made possibly the most important phone call of your life, and now you’re on your way to get treatment at the best drug abuse treatment center in California. We’re sure you have a lot of questions, like what are you supposed to pack for your stay at The Discovery House? In the coming weeks and months, you are going to be going through a lot of change, you’re going to meet a bunch of new people, and uncover the who, what, why, where, and how’s of your substance addiction. This is a huge deal, and it’s likely that you’re going through all the feels right now. To make the process even easier for you, we’ve put together this checklist to ensure you know what to bring vs. what not to bring to rehab with you.
What to Bring to Our Drug Abuse Treatment Center
Clothing to Bring to Alcohol and Drug Rehab
First, you know you are going to need a change of clothes or two. We do facilitate weekly outings and activities so make sure to keep that in mind when you are packing for your stay with us. Our rehabilitation center is located in Southern California, and yes, it’s true – it is sunny and relatively warm almost every single day of the year. Each rehab center has onsite laundry available for residents to use to accommodate any needs you may have.
Some clothing items you may want to bring with you:
- Shoes, shirts, pants, shorts, socks
Don’t Bring: Clothing that is suggestive or that represents drugs or alcohol use.
Personal Care Items to Bring to Drug Rehab
Staying at an alcohol or drug abuse treatment center, you are going to be on a much more strict schedule than the one you are probably used to. You won’t be able to just “run out” to grab something at a moment’s notice. Therefore it is important that you arrive with everything you might need for an overnight stay.
Some personal care items you may want to bring with you:
- Face wash
- Body wash
- Lotion or moisturizer
- Feminine hygiene products
Don’t Bring: Any personal care items containing alcohol.
Miscellaneous Important Items
Though you will have a more strict schedule throughout the drug rehab program, you will also have a lot of down time. This means you will have time to really reflect upon your life present, past, and future. It helps to have a journal on hand to record how things are going, how you are feeling or simply to record your goals and dreams. Also, if you are a reader, books and magazines are also permitted as long as they don’t promote drug paraphernalia or substance abuse.
- Alarm clock
- Books or magazines
- Personal journal
- Insurance card
- Driver’s license
Don’t Bring: Food, laptops, MP3 players, cards, games, permanent markers, weapons, and most importantly, drugs or alcohol.
Upon arrival at our luxury rehab facilities, you will go through an evaluation process, and all your items will be catalogued. This is to ensure no prohibited items or substances are being brought into the facility, and to make certain you take all of your personal items home with you at the end of your stay.
Items such as drugs, alcohol, drug paraphernalia and weapons are strictly prohibited, as well as any item that is suggestive of drugs or alcohol, such as clothing, CD’s and movies representing substance abuse.
If you have a specific question about a particular item contact us via our form or by calling 888.962.8932 for more information on what to bring to rehab with you.
