Terms and Conditions

The Discovery House LLC (TDH, The Discovery House) strives to provide the most effective, comfortable, and safe environment available to help residents excel in their recovery process.

We commit to providing each client with an opportunity to recover in a safe, clean environment with dignity and respect. This commitment concerns the environment that The Discovery House furnishes to residents undergoing treatment at The Discovery House.

Residents reside in a single-family home staffed by individuals who are certified to assist in treatment. The luxury rehab facilities are located in residential neighborhoods and monitored and staffed at all times.

The staff has daily assignments to assist residents, remain on-call 24 hours a day, and perform daily tasks designed to facilitate treatment in a loving atmosphere. This environment seeks to help residents develop mutually-supportive relationships and live with one another in a friendly, caring household. If you are interested in learning more about our dedicated team and their commitment to your well-being, feel free to meet the Discovery house team during your visit.

We Commit to providing quality services to meet your recovery needs, working together for the best outcome. This commitment concerns the qualifications of The Discovery House staff and the recovery philosophy we employ to help residents maximize their recovery efforts while at The Discovery House.

The State of California licenses The Discovery House as a drug and alcohol treatment provider and treatment staff maintain all necessary credentials for counseling and other services.

While The Discovery House does not provide medical services, we enlist staff who are fully certified to counsel residents in recovery, and who strive to work together with residents in their recovery efforts.

We commit to dedicating our staff and resources to assist our program participants to find a new path, remaining dedicated to your success in accomplishing physical, mental, and sociologic goals. This commitment concerns the holistic approach which The Discovery House takes toward providing treatment to its residents.

Our staff does not force residents into a single method for recovery.

While The Discovery House utilizes treatment counseling, residents also participate in fitness activities, cultural outings, household events, and similar offerings intended to provide comprehensive support to the recovery.

Events are organized and guided by The Discovery House personnel who regularly work with counselors to design activities with the goal of providing helpful holistic support.

We commit to providing recovery education utilizing evidenced-based concepts and precepts designed to empower your life with measurable techniques and proven systems, including, but not limited to, the following proven techniques:

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (ABCDE Model of Emotional Disturbance). Albert Ellis thought people developed irrational beliefs in response to preferential goals being blocked. He set this up in an ABCDE model (Ellis and Dryden, 1987). “A” stands for Activating Event or Adversity. This is an event. It is just a fact. “B” refers to one’s Irrational Belief about the event at “A.” That belief then leads to “C,” the emotional and Behavioral Consequences. “D” stands for disputes or arguments against irrational beliefs. “E” stands for New Effect or the new, more effective emotions and behaviors that result from more rational thinking about the original event.

S.E.L.F Curriculum (S.E.L.F. – Safety, Emotions, Loss, and Future) designed by the Sanctuary Group to increase coping skills related to traumatic events. Given the present strained nature of our helping institutions, it is clear that we must find simple and straightforward means of educating large numbers of people using methods that easily integrate into established practice. The S.E.L.F. Group Curriculum has been almost twenty years in the making. From about 1986 to 2001, the authors created sustained and recreated it four times and finally closed one of the only specialty inpatient psychiatric programs for the treatment of adults who had been maltreated as children [3]. “In that short-term setting that we called, The Sanctuary®, we treated people with individual, family and group modalities. But as lengths of stay shortened, and pressures for short-term treatment approaches escalated, we strengthened our group program in order to take advantage of the compounded learning experience that is typical of group interaction.”

Bright Curriculum has been designed by the RAND Group for implementation by long-term treatment centers for addiction. The name BRIGHT refers to Building Recovery by Improving Goals, Habits, and Thoughts. Goals, habits, and thoughts are key treatment targets in a cognitive behavioral therapy approach proven to increase cognitive processing to promote emotional regulation. This work was sponsored by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (Grant number R01 AA014699). The research was conducted within RAND Health, a division of the RAND Corporation.

Living in Balance Curriculum: Moving from a Life of Addiction to a Life of Recovery is a manual-based, comprehensive addiction treatment program that emphasizes relapse prevention. This curriculum consists of a series of 1.5- to 2-hour psychoeducational and experiential training sessions. It can be delivered on an individual basis or in group settings at a drug alcohol treatment center with relaxation exercises, role-play exercises, discussions, and workbook exercises. The psychoeducational sessions cover topics such as drug education, relapse prevention, available self-help groups, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The experientially based or interactive sessions are designed to enhance the client’s level of functioning in specific key life areas that are often neglected with prolonged drug use: physical, emotional, and social well-being, adult education opportunities, vocational development, daily living skills, spirituality/recovery, sexuality and recreation/leisure.

These sessions include a large amount of role-playing with time to actively process personal issues and learn how to cope with everyday stressors.

We Commit to treating each person as an individual, designing Individualized addiction treatment programs focusing on your stressors to allow you and your family to work toward your unfulfilled dreams:

This commitment concerns The Discovery House’s practice of providing one-on-one assessment, treatment planning, counseling, and monitoring throughout a resident’s stay.

Treatment is designed for each particular individual and, while group activities and socialization are an essential part of The Discovery House’s philosophy, each resident has a counseling and treatment program designed specifically for them.
