In our ongoing commitment to community service, The Discovery House has donated $1,000 at the Double Platinum level to support Revitalize Reseda’s annual holiday lighting project. Our involvement does not stop there, however. Our clients will also be participating by helping to install the decorations throughout a five-mile downtown area and to remove them at the end of the season.
“This is a win-win situation for us,” said McKay Whiting, co-founder of The Discovery House. We enjoy being part of our community. We know that Revitalize Reseda does many worthwhile projects throughout the year, and we want to do our part as responsible community members. Additionally, we know how important it is for our clients to learn the life skills involved in service. We are committed to our clients’ recovery process from the moment of the admission interview through follow-up care to help prevent relapse. Service to others is a key part of recovery, and what better way to serve than helping to improve the quality of life in Reseda? We want to be good neighbors, and we want to help our clients, and this is how we do it.”
Revitalize Reseda Offers Opportunities For Clients To Serve
The holiday season is not the only time that Discovery House clients have helped on projects with Revitalize Reseda, which is a volunteer organization that works closely with the Reseda City Council, the district attorney and the Los Angeles Police Department to continue making Reseda a desirable place to live.
Another major project we have worked on is the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Our clients have helped set up tents and tarps, and they have worked in souvenir areas. We also have assisted with the LAPD’s annual “National Night Out” every August. This event provides an opportunity for police to mingle with neighborhood residents in a positive, informal environment. Other projects include food banks and toy drives.
