5 Ways to Jumpstart a Sober Lifestyle While in Drug Addiction Recovery

Even if New Year’s resolutions are not your thing, a big part of drug addiction recovery is discovering ways in which to better oneself and there is no time like the present to cultivate positive change in your life. Here are five ways to jumpstart a healthy lifestyle that is free from alcohol or drug dependency no matter what time of year it is.

Keep Track of Your Progress

Sometimes, since we are busy we lose track of where we’ve been, why we’ve been there, and how we can learn from it. Keeping track of your experiences throughout your alcohol or drug addiction recovery using a journal or an app will help you to look at yourself and use your habits to inspire you to make or continue with the change you want to happen in your life.

Plan a Healthy Escape

When you are in the midst of drugs and alcohol abuse, it becomes your answer to everything. The ail to all your aches and troubles. In your substance abuse, you had one thing right; we as humans do need a little healthy escape every now and again. Book a weekend trip, explore something new, or take a day at home each week to relax and reset for the week ahead.

Treat Yourself

It is important to remember to celebrate victories, no matter how big or small. When you have reached a milestone in your recovery, celebrate by treating yourself to your favorite latte or indulge in something that inspires you to stay on track.

Nourish Your Body

It is so much easier to do all that you set out to do when you fuel your body in a clean and healthy way. Fill up on nutrient-dense foods like fresh fruits and veggies and reduce your intake of refined sugary foods. You will feel more energized and ready to take on anything.

Do What You Love

Spend your time doing things that you love and that are good for your mind, your body, and your spirit. Find a job that calls to you, pick up a hobby that makes you rediscover passion, or simply make it a goal to establish more meaningful relationships with your friends and family. Whatever makes you happy – do that.

Remember, success doesn’t happen overnight. It happens after you put in the work required to make real change happen.
