5 Inspirational Recovery Quotes to Start Your New Year Off Right

As the new year begins, we’ve been thinking of inspirational recovery quotes that will carry us all the way through January. Whether you’ve decided to start the new year off with some resolutions or if you are just taking it one day at a time, we have put together a few of our favorites to encourage and motivate you in your recovery.

Let Yourself Move to the Next Chapter in Your Life
Sometimes when we want to achieve something, we think of all the reasons why it won’t work and point the finger to all the things that are stopping us. However, most of the time, we are the only thing that is holding us back. This year, let go of those excuses and think instead of ways that you can allow yourself to move forward to the exciting next chapter ahead.

Believe You Can and You’re Halfway There
Addiction really is a family disease, and it’s one that is exponentially more difficult to overcome without the support and belief from loved ones. While their belief does play an instrumental role in your recovery, it’s the belief that you have in yourself that will mean the difference between what you want for yourself and what your addiction wants for you.

Strive for Progress Not Perfection
For anyone who sets a goal, it is all too easy to get carried away with perfection. Since perfection is a relative word and can be toxic to your recovery, we’ve decided that we want to stick with our favorite “P” word: progress. Working toward your goals with progress in mind as opposed to perfection will give you a healthier mindset to achieve sobriety or any goal, no matter how big or small.

If You Want Something You Never Had, You Have to do Something You’ve Never Done
The reason why many people don’t achieve their goals is because they aren’t willing to do the work. Their vision is so focused on the end product that they don’t see the pile of work that is right in front of them and needs to be completed in order to reach that end state. Making the decision to pursue sobriety from drug or alcohol addiction is a big deal. It’s unknown and uncharted territory that is scary, but if you’re not willing to try doing something you’ve never done you won’t have what you really want: your recovery. Consider visiting a residential drug and alcohol treatment center where you can find the support and guidance you need from individuals who have walked a similar path. Connecting with those who have successfully navigated the challenges of recovery can make your journey toward sobriety more manageable and fulfilling.

Celebrate Every Tiny Victory
While some people choose to stick to small and manageable goals (our favorite), others are motivated by big picture, long-term goals. Big goals can be great, but the bigger they are, the more unrealistic they tend to be. They require a much longer wait time and patience is a virtue that we as humans sometimes have a hard time with. So, don’t wait, celebrate the little triumphs that slowly but surely bring you closer to your main goal.
