Alumni and Family Experiences:

“Our experience at TDH was our first with a treatment center.  We had no idea what to expect.  From the minute we arrived on their front door step it was nothing but positive.   We were greeted with a smile and friendly staff.  We were given a tour of the house and introduced to everyone that made us feel welcome.

After going over the treatment program information and rules with TDH director and staff I knew this was what our son needed.  Once in the program TDH stayed in constant communication with us about his progress no matter how big or small.  If at any time there was a question or problem we had we could call them also.  It was such a relief to know he was in a safe place getting the help he very much needed.

We attended meetings with our son and his counselors and learned so much right along with him.  I felt this was very important because we learned exactly how to deal with our son as a addict.  We are still learning and knowing that TDH will always be there to support us is a huge comfort to us.  Having had no experience in the past living with or helping a addict,  today I don’t feel that way.  Not only do we feel stronger as parents but also as a person.  We use to feel so much guilt about our son being a addict but have learned this was his choice not ours.

We do see changes in our son after completing TDH program.  He is not the uptight, irritable, unpleasant person that he was when he first when into treatment.  The beginning of treatment was not easy, but he has   mentioned on several occasions that he is so thankful that he went into treatment.  He says it is scary to think of where he might have been now if he had not gone into treatment.

I cannot thank the staff enough for all the help and support they gave us during our sons treatment at TDH. They work so hard and give so much and are always so positive about it all.  There are ups and downs and it is not easy but they are ALWAYS there to help.  I cannot say enough good about TDH!   All  I can say if you have someone that needs help this is where you want to go.

Much, much Love and Many Thank You’s”

To the Discovery House,

“I can’t thank you enough from the bottom of my heart and soul. You gave us back the wonderful man I knew father, Husband, and Grandfather. Everyone had given up on him and I had nothing left to give & had lost myself trying to save him. Our entire family suffered the worst pain ever it tore us apart.

Here is my story,

I watched my husband slowly die, he went from a loving husband that I trusted to a man I didn’t know he liked alcohol more than me.  He loved alcohol more than me. I was in denial, did not want to face this other Woman (alcohol). Our beautiful life, the perfect couple was being torn apart. He struggled for years on his own, then the last five years turned to a nightmare, as he crossed the line.

I came home with our 11 year old son and his friend and found my husband almost dead in the backyard. He was taken to Northridge E.R. they said his alcohol level was so high he should have died. My worst nightmare was one of us finding him dead. For days in the hospital he was mentally and spiritually (crazy). They referred me to The Discovery House. After being in at least 6-8 rehabs, I was hesitant to call, that’s when I spoke to McKay. She was so kind and it felt like, ok let me meet her and Tom, I felt safe there. I felt hope again from these two wonderful people who I believe with their staff and program at The Discovery House gave me back my husband. We will celebrate our 25 year anniversary soon, that I never thought we would see. The environment is clean, The meeting and family groups have helped my family recover from this Disease. The Thankfulness and gratitude I feel can’t be put into words. This place helped my husband Find a new way to stay sober and understand. He is back to the kind loving caring man even better!

Thank You Discovery House!

I love you all. (Mike, Steve, Olivia, Tom, McKay, John, Alex, & David). I hope this letter will help families understand its Disease, that affects the entire family. So hopeless shameful and full of guilt that we could not save our loved one, our kid, husband, wife, mother, dad it’s devastating. They gave him the tools and strength with love and compassion to get his life back.”

I love you all!

Laura

(The family groups are the best you don’t feel left out. I also felt they helped our children. The best of all they take our insurance and are flexible).

“The Discovery House has benefited me in so many ways.  I found it to be a very nice place to get clean and back on my feet. I was very pleased with the staff at the Discovery House as well as the quality of the food.  John makes great meals, and was so helpful in many other ways. Gary is a great manager too.

This is the best facility I have ever been at.

Thank you.”

“On a scale from 1-10, I would give the Discovery House a 9.  The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the staff was so helpful.  There was internet access, on-demand TV, and plentiful food.

Thank you Discovery House for saving my life.”

“I have never been to treatment before, but just being around positive people makes me want to live life sober and crime free.  The Discover House had great management and a very clean house.  What I liked most was the comaraderie and hospitality.”

“Since going to the discovery house, my life has changed for the best.  I have never been to treatment before, but after leaving the discovery, I feel confident in moving forward with my life.

Thank you.”

“I have been to other centers in the past, but the Discovery House is far above my other experiences.  One major benefit was the ability to improve my people skills.  The Discovery House had great quality food, very polite management, and super cleanliness.

Thank you Discovery House, Manuel”

“The Discovery House gave me a safe, clean, no stress environment to focus on my recovery.  The staff is understanding and compassionate and is willing to go the extra mile for their clients.  Some of the things I liked most was the cleanliness, NO STRESS, the food and the staff.  I liked the way the facility is run as a whole.  There is no treatment facility that compares, the discovery house is 5 stars.”

“I have been to other facilities in the past, but the Discovery House was different.  The house was cleaner and less tension for me.  The food was great, staff was reasonable, and the rooms were spacious.

John”

“The Discovery House was a safe place for me to get on my feet again and learn to live sober.  The cleanliness, great management and quality food were all qualities that I was pleased with.  I felt able to live comfortably, and get the treatment I needed.

David”

“Well, I think the Discovery House is a really good treatment facility, and the people that work there are really very kind to you.  They really try and help you in any way they can.  Some of the best qualities that they have there are the 12 step book study group in the night.  These groups really helped me a lot.

Mario”

“The Discovery House benefited me by learning more about fellowship with others.  I was taught how to share my story and how to give back as we are supposed to.  As a client they provided a warm, caring place that i was proud and felt comfortable to call “home”.  The structure of the facility, the services that were provided, the fellowship, and the house meetings were all some things that I really liked about the Discovery House.  From the first day I went there, the house was always clean and taken care of.  The Discovery House gives one the feeling of “freedom/consequences for ones own choices”.  I would like to say thanks to house manager Gary, the fab #1 cook Big John, and also brother Tom.

Julio”

“Being at the Discover House has given me some transition time back into society and helped me to build a foundation.  I was very pleased with cleanliness, and the House itself is big.  All the staff, the owners and managers were great.  What I liked most was being able to have a stable environment until i could make it on my own.  Thank you Gary and John 4 everything.

Mario J.”

“Learning how to live clean and sober on a day to day basis was what benefited me the most at The Discovery House.  The place was real clean, great food and great staff.  Its an all around nice place.  There is no comparison, The Discovery House don’t play if your getting loaded your gone.  And for me I needed to be around clean people to help me and show me it works.  Not like some other programs that are just after money and don’t care what goes on in the house.

Dear Discovery House,

Our family cannot thank TDH enough for the positive impact that they had on our son, and consequently our whole family. When we chose TDH for our son’s treatment, we had no idea what to expect or what the outcome would be. Needless to say when our son entered the program it was a “rock-bottom” time for all of us. There is no parents’ go-to guide on how to properly deal and treat your child’s addiction. My husband and I were lost, and we recognized that something had to change. As parents we couldn’t watch our son hurt himself any longer.

As a family, we made the decision for our son to enter a long term treatment program. With so many options it becomes an overwhelming decision. Should the program be located nearby? Should it be 3, 6, or 12 months? Will it work? Are we making the right choice?

After a brief conversation with the TDH staff, we drove to the home that day to meet the staff and learn about the program. Instantly, we knew that TDH was the right place for our him. They were extremely welcoming, and were able to accept him into the program that day. From then on, things only got better and easier. TDH’s staff is experienced in handling everything that we were unsure of. Because of our son’s addiction, it was necessary to have a medical withdrawal specialist. They coordinated all doctor’s visits, and kept us informed of the progress he was making. Their staff was also able to work out all court ordered classes. I cannot express how much of a relief it was knowing that everything was going to be taken care of, and done correctly.

Today, our son is a new person. He is a full time student, and is enthusiastic about life in general. TDH gave our son his life back. Although he is out of the program now, we are still in contact with several staff members there and have developed a wonderful relationship with them. We cannot be happier with our experience with TDH, and would recommend the program to anyone going through a similar situation.
