Tom Whiting | Executive Director | Co-Founder
With over 25 years of experience in the addiction recovery field, Tom is our executive director. Since working on his own recovery to being the chair of the San Fernando Valley Sober Living Coalition; Tom has been relentless in his pursuit to improve the lives of those struggling from the disease of addiction. Due to his successful career in home construction and his keen insight into the shortcomings of other treatment programs, Tom has been able to build The Discovery House from the ground up to meet all the needs of drug addiction treatment. In conclusion, he works tirelessly to ensure that The Discovery House maintains the highest level of care.
McKay Whiting | Co-Founder
Often the first point of contact at The Discovery House, McKay oversees the Admissions and Intake Department. She processes all admission calls and provides necessary information pertaining to our services, programs, and treatment. Most noteworthy, she brings years of both personal and professional experience working in addiction and recovery. Furthermore, she has tremendous passion and enthusiasm for facilitating clients and their families in making the life-altering changes necessary to begin the process of recovery. In conclusion, McKay is highly skilled at immediate crisis intervention and always brings compassion to individuals and family members.
Joy Crownover | Director of Operations
Joy has a great passion for working in the field of alcohol and drug addiction treatment. She greatly benefited from her time as an intake counselor at the Salvation Army where she was on the front lines helping the most destitute. Joy is the backbone of The Discovery House luxury rehab facilities, as a result making sure everything runs smoothly. “At The Discovery House, the dedication to one-on-one care is so beneficial to the struggling addict.”
Olivia Bernal CADC-II | Senior Clinical Director
Olivia has been working in the chemical dependency counseling field for almost a decade. “I pursued this career to help those individuals suffering from a seemingly hopeless affliction to a new way life. I continue to have passion for this field as I can see men and women grasp their own journey in recovery and begin to reunite with their families”
Keith Boone CAODC | Assistant Director
Keith Boone is a drug and alcohol counselor certified by CAODC. He completed his studies in chemical dependency at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena. Most noteworthy, Keith has twenty-one years of experience working as a substance abuse counselor and assistant clinical supervisor. Furthermore, he has experience in treatment at all levels of care including methadone, detox, residential, day treatment, and outpatient. In addition, he has worked with adults, adolescents, co-occurring clients and their family members. Keith has worked with clients on parole, probation, and AB109 helping them address addiction related issues and assisting them through the recovery process. Finally, Keith is a certified HIV counselor.
Michelle Beard MA | CATC | Assistant Director Program Services
Michelle has networked in the social services field for over 10 years. Having completed her Bachelor’s Degree from UC Davis in Psychology and Communications; Michelle continued to develop her skill set completing a Master’s Degree at California State University Dominguez Hills focusing on Marriage and Family Therapy. In addition, Michelle demonstrated her ability to improve the quality of life for the underserved population from working to assist in the housing of homeless veterans and families on Skid Row in Los Angeles; to implementing ideas and initiatives to assist in tackling barriers encountered by individuals with mental health and substance abuse throughout the inner cities. Most noteworthy, Michelle has a genuine passion to assist those who are struggling with the disease of addiction. In conclusion, she believes that everyone deserves a chance to be a better version of themselves.

The Discovery House is proud to hold the gold seal of approval from the Joint Commission. Considered to be the gold standard in health care, only 6% of treatment centers in the nation hold this accreditation. As a result, we meet all inspection and safety standards that are required of all hospitals in the United States, including:
